Some have asked “What is Platinum Highlights?”. We are a group of women that are “Gracefully Embracing the Grey” that reflects in the aging process. For most of us, the Grey aka Platinum Highlights, that appear in our hair is one of the first signs of aging.  Oh…but there are many other signs to come! But this is not about exposing your grey. It’s your choice to wear your grey or color it.  I’ve chosen to expose my Platinum Highlights, but that’s for now.  I may change my mind in months or years to come but that’s my decision and mine alone.  But the one thing I can’t change is the fact that my body is now 54 years old and it doesn’t perform as it did in my 20’s, 30’s, or even 40’s.   Thus this blog in which I discuss these changes.

One thing I’ve realized is that it doesn’t matter where you are from, what you look like, your height, weight or body shape, the aging process is coming.  Some of us may not want to accept this but it’s true and we can’t change it. Or can you? Is there really such a thing as anti-aging? Hmmm…I’ll save this response for another blog.  Earlier this year, God gave me a vision of a photo to reflect the beauty that this group of women possess.  Women that are pre, actual or post menopausal-in all sizes, heights and shapes.  Women with a variety of ethnicities.  Women that are beautiful inside and out and enjoying this thing that I call, “Gracefully Embracing the Grey”.

I don’t see many Aging Gracefully ladies in major advertising campaigns. From what I’ve seen, the ladies appear to be younger than 30 something or greater than 70 plus. (Unless it’s an anti-aging product.) I have nothing against either age group, it’s just not where I am today. I’ve been in one category and I’m Gracefully heading to the other.  I am in a great place! Life is good!  My finances are more stable and I have some disposable income that I can play around with. I can go on girls trips, weekend getaways, cruises or wherever we plan.  I have a little more time for leisure now that I’ve arrived at this wonderful age. And of course, I want to be fashionable without dressing too young or too old.  So here we are…The Platinum Highlights Ladies!

Kim, Dal, Sharon, Ameta, Me, Lanitra, Marissa, Cassandra, Adrienne and Bea

This photo shoot was so much fun! Some of these ladies are my personal friends and some are friends of friends. But we’re all friends now. When we met, everyone understood my goal and their role.  Everyone was extremely willing to assist me with this vision. They arrived focused and looking gorgeous!  We did a few ice breakers, ate some good food and laughed really hard.  Thanks to @Marlowestavern at Ridgewalk Pkwy in Kennesaw, GA for hosting our Inaugural Meet and Greet.

I asked the ladies to wear black bottoms and a white top.  I provided the colored cashmere scarves.   This was done to show how much alike we are but still so different. Within this group, we are mothers and some even grandmothers. We’re Entrepreneurs, Corporate Executives, Momagers, Personal Trainers, IT Professionals,  Homemakers, and Administrators to name a few. Our children range from elementary school to adults. We are a true representation of what this demographic looks like. And the great thing about joining this movement is…you just need to be yourself! Approaching 50 with the desire to age gracefully and chat about your experiences amongst like-minded beautiful women. That’s it!

Take a look at some of the other photos from that wonderful day. I am planning so many great things for 2018 and beyond. Brunches, lunches, trips, 5K’s and other fun experiences just to name a few. Please subscribe to this blog so you won’t miss anything.  If you’re interested in being in a future photo shoot, please express your interest on the “Contact” page.   Who knows, we may be in your area in 2018.   #PHmovement #joinusonthisjourney
